“Eye has not seen, nor ear heard, nor have entered into the heart of man the things which God has prepared for those who love Him” (1 Corinthians 2:9).
Through our natural senses, it is impossible to ascertain the things of God or know His will for us. But such is not the case in the Spirit. As Spirit-filled believers, we have access to the wisdom of God. How? Through the Holy Spirit.
- In His covenant with Jesus, God ordained the way He reveals things to us. His name is Holy Spirit. Scripture says the Spirit searches all things, yes, and the deep things of God (see 1 Cor. 2:10).
- Jesus said, He [Holy Spirit] will not speak on His own authority, but whatever He hears He will speak; and He will tell you things to come (John 16:13).
That you might know—
God gave us His Spirit so that we might know (and understand) the things He has freely given.
The apostle Paul wrote, “we speak not in words which man’s wisdom teaches but that which the Holy Spirit teaches” (v. 13). The natural man does not receive the things of the Spirit of God because they are foolishness to him; nor can he know them because they are spiritually discerned. The word discerned is the Greek word anakrino, and it means to “judge” or “question.”
One must first have the indwelling Holy Spirit before He can understand godly wisdom and thereby judge all things. The Amplified Version says the spiritual man “questions, examines and applies what the Holy Spirit reveals” (v. 14).
The next time you need to make a decision or don’t know what to do, ask God. Then take the time to stop whatever you’re doing, quiet your natural mind and wait on Him. God promised to reveal things directly to you through His Holy Spirit, and His desire is for you to know His will and understand all that He has prepared for you.
